A First Sip at Dewar’s: Discovering a New Favourite with Sip Seekers

There aren’t many whisky distilleries in Scotland I haven’t visited, but Dewar’s Aberfeldy was one of the rare few still on my list, which made this Sip Seekers Sip Diaries trip feel like unwrapping something long‑awaited. Tucked into the Perthshire landscape, the distillery is instantly charming: golden stone buildings, leafy grounds, and that unmistakable sense of heritage that hits you the moment you step inside. Visiting for the first time with a group of whisky‑loving women on a press trip for Sip Seekers, made it even sweeter.

Sip Seekers is a modern Scottish drinks‑tourism platform designed to make discovering whisky, gin and brewery experiences easier, fresher and far more fun. They curate hand‑picked tours, tastings and behind‑the‑scenes adventures across Scotland, with a focus on accessibility, storytelling and community. Their new Sip Diaries series brings creators and drinks lovers together for immersive, one‑of‑a‑kind days out, the kind that blend education with pure enjoyment and celebrate the people, places and flavours behind Scotland’s spirits.

What surprised me most was just how beautiful the visitor experience is. Dewar’s has created a space that feels more like a curated cultural stop than a simple distillery tour. The café is inviting, the kind of place you could happily linger over a coffee and a slice of something sweet. But the real showstopper is the theatre and whisky museum; a stunning, immersive space that tells the story of Dewar’s with cinematic flair. You’re given the freedom to wander at your own pace, dipping in and out of exhibits, listening to the voices of the Dewar family, and soaking up the history behind one of Scotland’s most iconic blended whiskies. It’s thoughtful, modern, and genuinely impressive.

A Guided Distillery Tour and Tasting with Sip Seekers

After exploring the museum, we gathered for our distillery tour, the part I’d been waiting for. There’s something special about seeing a whisky you’ve known for years come to life in front of you: the mash tuns, the washbacks, the copper stills glowing softly in the warm air. Our guide walked us through each stage with ease, weaving together process, people and place in a way that made even seasoned whisky drinkers in the group lean in a little closer. For me, it was that perfect blend of learning and wonder that only a first‑time visit can bring.

We finished with a tasting, of course, a line‑up of Dewar’s expressions that showcased just how versatile and elegant their blends can be. Honeyed sweetness, soft smoke, orchard fruits, creamy vanilla… each dram had its own personality, and we all couldn’t wait to get our drivers drams back home to taste them.

As a first chapter in Sip Seekers’ Sip Diaries, Dewar’s Aberfeldy was a perfect choice. A gorgeous setting, a beautifully curated visitor experience, and a tour that balances storytelling with craft. For me, it was a long‑overdue first visit and one I’m already planning to repeat.
