EAT - Review Haar at Home Lobster and Crab Box

If there is one Scottish food group that I love and know most about, its Scottish Seafood. If you want fast food, then you need to cook seafood. Most seafood and shellfish can be ready in a matter of minutes, and although not difficult to cook, it does take some confidence to do so.

And this is where receiving an At Home box, makes life easy. Haar at Home are delivering luxury seafood boxes to your door. Brought to you by Masterchef Finalist, Chef Dean Banks and his staff at Haar Restaurant, St Andrews, delivered nationwide.

REVIEW - HAAR AT HOME, LUXURY LOBSTER AND CRAB BOX

Your box will arrive filled with whatever decadent goodies you ordered like langoustines, lobster, crab, potatoes, broccoli and steak. Although well insulated with ice packs, you want to get these gorgeous food items in the fridge asap.

My box was the Luxury 2 course Lobster and Crab Box containing :Dressed Crab with Mango and Asian Slaw and Dressed Lobster with butter sauce, seaweed potatoes, seared broccoli and smoked mayo.

All items are shrink wrapped and individually labelled for easy identification. An information leaflet is included with a QR code, that once scanned will connect you with an online instruction cooking sheet. One thing you need to be conscience of is the timings but all this is well laid out and explained in the instructions.

The crab was well dressed and only required a little ‘fluffing up’ with a fork. I don’t think this crab would have lasted until the following day or the whole weekend. The dates indicate that your box ingredients need to be used with 48 hours and I am glad that I ate mine on the evening that I received it.

The Mango Slaw was very fresh with a nice hint of heat. I squeezed quite a lot of lime over it which gave it a nice zing against the sweetness of the mango.

The broccoli was beautiful, bountiful and fresh; the baby potatoes were pretty darn near perfect - soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside served with a big dollop of smoked mayonnaise.

But as always its the lobster that is the star of the show. They are fairly small (you can tell by the size of their claw meat) but you’ll still manage some very tasty sweet bites from these fellows. I had some Scottish scallops from Amity Fish Company, so I cooked these up to serve with my lobster.

Once you pulled the meat out of the lobster, gorgeous silky pools of the butter sauce gathered in the shell, which made for an excellent dunking vessel for the sweet lobster meat and a potato or two.

This is most definitely a decadent box of treats to eat at home. For me, I think its for a special occasion, a dinner to celebrate something and for definite lovers and confident cooks of seafood.

My suggestion is to order the bread and the bottle of champagne too or if its a very special occasion, go for an extra dressed lobster or add in oak smoked langoustines. It’ll cost you easily £120 for the lot, but you’d pay more for this if you dined out.

I was invited by Haar at Home to review their At Home box. This box was complimentary but the views are very much my own.
