REVIEW : EAT - Boozy Brunch at Three Sisters, Cowgate, Edinburgh

I love the thought of a Boozy Brunch. Breakfast food is one of my all time favourite foods and combined with a wicked alcohol filled cocktail or two, this just evolves into one of the most perfect meals of the day.

REVIEW - BOOZY BRUNCH AT THREE SISTERS, EDINBURGH

As a TartanSpoonie, I haven’t been out reviewing as much as what I would have (due to obvious reasons) so it was such a treat to grab my bestie and head out to the young, trendy, more student area of Edinburgh, the Cowgate.

We were heading to the Three Sisters which is renowned for being a large bar and hosting courtyard parties. This is the party hub during Edinburgh Festival and also a hot spot for sports fans as they stream live sports onto their large screen. It’s a destination for stag and hen parties and is home to the Union Bar for students.

But from large boisterous crowds to socially distanced fun, The Three Sisters has had a rethink and slight makeover; and have come up with what I would consider one of the nicer large outdoor courtyards in the city centre.

A large undercover outdoor bar area, stage, with plenty of outdoor table and chair seating. All tables must be booked in advance. They still show sports on the big screen and there is still a party atmosphere but just socially distanced!

We had a twelve noon brunch booking and I had scanned the menu tirelessly the night before, changing my mind several times. On a Saturday and a Sunday, the Three Sisters do brunch for £23.95 which includes a meal from their Brunch menu and two cocktails.

So we started off with cocktails of course.

The Pink Gin Daiquiri - Gordon’s Pink Gin, Lime and blackberry served frozen. The best kind of brain freeze!

Passionfruit Martini - vodka based with a gorgeous tang!

Now it was decision time. No more flipping between the which poached eggs to go for - Ayrshire Bacon or Smashed Avo and Chilli. No. I finally settled on the Full Scottish.

WOW!

The plate was laden with breakfast goodies that made my belly rumble even more and my taste buds scream at me, but photos come first!

On the plate you’ll find Lorne Sausage, Bacon, Black Pudding, Haggis, Tomato, Mushroom, Baked Beans,
Tattie Scone & Eggs Your Way (I chose fried) and toast. Ooofft, I was glad I skipped my coffee this morning.

It’s a big ol plate of food and lots to get through so make sure you’re hungry. My tomato was a little undercooked and the large portobello mushroom didn’t do it for me as it was too watery (I would have preferred small button mushrooms). Everything else got demolished and was scummy!

My bestie tucked into the classic of French Toast with bacon and maple syrup.

A lovely light plate of food, that was thoroughly enjoyed and every morsel and syrupy drop consumed. The bread was well egged and fried to a light crisp on the outside whilst retaining its softness on the inside.

We finished off with some coffees and sat for a while enjoying the sunshine.

The staff here are great, super friendly and around when you need them but not over bearing. The place is Covid friendly with hand sanitising stations, plenty of space between tables, and table service.

My only wish is that we had a longer Summer and that there were more lazy boozy brunch weekends in the sunshine to come.

TartanSpoon was invited by the Three Sisters Pub to review their Boozy Brunch. Food and drink were complimentary but the views are very much Carmin’s.
