And Afternoon Tea in the Bayswell Park Hotel Seaview Restaurant looking out over the Firth of Fourth is possibly one of the best things to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
A REVIEW OF AFTERNOON TEA AT THE BAYSWELL PARK HOTEL, DUNBAR, EAST LOTHIAN
The Bayswell Park Hotel is a gorgeous ivy clad Victorian building located right on the edge of the rugged East Coast coastline. The hotel boasts 21 bedrooms with 4 located on the ground floor with their own private decking and hot tub overlooking those phenomenal sea views. This is my kind of accommodation right there but will have to leave that for another time, another review!
The Seaview Restaurant conservatory provides the best seascape view and is the perfect spot for Afternoon Team, no matter the weather. We were blessed that it was warm and fairly sunny on our visit, but I can imagine watching the weather change and roll in across the sea.
Firstly, I have to comment on the teapots and the cups. It was just downright delightful to be able to sip tea from something so beautiful and pouring tea from these Maxwell & Williams Teas & C’s teapots, made my day! There is something so pure about the ritual of pouring tea from a beautiful teapot. I love it!

Their Afternoon Tea comes with a range of teas and coffees or you can opt for Prosecco. We love a glass of bubbly followed by tea of course. We chose Earl Grey and Assam blends.
A lovely touch was starting the Afternoon Tea with Amuse Bouche of either Sorbet or Soup. We opted to try one each (for the Gram of course!). The Mango Sorbet was smooth and juicy and sat so well against the sips of delicate tea. The Soup was Broccoli and Almond, thick and more-ish.
As soon as the aroma of freshly brewed tea filled our senses so the sight of rounded tiered trays laden with delights came into vision. Placed down in the corner of our table, our eyes couldn’t help but dart from one tier to the next. From fluffy scones with clotted cream and raspberry preserves to dainty sandwiches filled with the finest local ingredients, every bite is a celebration of flavour and refinement.
The savoury tier of this afternoon tea is a delightful symphony of flavours that perfectly balances the sweet treats that follow. From delicate finger sandwiches, filled with enticing combinations of smoked salmon and cucumber, egg mayo and cress and mustard, ham and lettuce, each bite offers a burst of savoury satisfaction. Alongside the sandwiches, one will find elegant pastries such as mini prawn cocktail in a pastry spoon, haggis bon bons with whisky and thyme mayo and red onion, brie and toasted walnut tart. These savoury delights are not just a precursor to the sweeter components of afternoon tea; they are an essential part of the experience, adding complexity and richness to the overall culinary journey.
The sweet tier of this afternoon tea is a delightful assortment of treats that brought a smile to our faces. From the lime macarons to the coconut terrine, this level of the tea tower offers a tantalizing array of indulgence. Each bite was a burst of sweetness, perfectly balanced with a touch of whimsy. Delicious carrot cake with equal amounts of frosting to cake, mini scones (plain and fruit) with ample clotted cream and jam, and the miniature plant pots of lavender mousse with chocolate soil graced this tray.
Our mission to devour everything on this Afternoon Tea stand was thwarted by the sheer amount of delectable bites and copious amount of fragrant tea.
Afternoon tea at The Bayswell Park Hotel in Dunbar is a delightful experience that showcases an array of exquisite pastries, freshly baked scones, and aromatic loose-leaf teas, all served against the backdrop of breathtaking coastal views. Service was great. Highly recommended.
