As part of the Meet the Producer Tour with Outer Hebrides Tourism and Scotland Food and Drink, I’ve explored the food and drink available across Uist.
Many of these producers were born out of lockdown and now have incredible businesses bringing locals and tourists the very best of Uist produce. One such producer is Lochmaddy Bay Prawns 2Go where DA and Tina, bring you the freshest most lush Scottish langoustines/prawns directly from the fishing boat!
REVIEW OF LOCHMADDY BAY PRAWNS, NORTH UIST, OUTER HEBRIDES
Lochmaddy Bay prawns are a true delight for seafood enthusiasts. Harvested from the pristine waters of Lochmaddy Bay, these prawns are renowned for their exceptional quality and flavour. The prawns are known for their firm, succulent flesh and a sweet, delicate taste that is truly unmatched. Served either hot or cold, Lochmaddy Bay prawns are a versatile ingredient that lends itself to a variety of dishes, from classic prawn cocktails to vibrant seafood pasta dishes. Their vibrant orange hue and tender texture add a touch of elegance to any plate.
You’ll find Lochmaddy Bay Prawns ‘bullet’ truck parked up at many an event held across the Outer Hebrides but mostly parked up at Clachan Sands (Village), North Uist.
As a lunch stop, it doesn’t come much better than this. Pop into their home base in Clachan Sands and gorge yourself on langoustines, prawns, crab and squat lobster. Grab a roll, a wrap or a platter and for afters why not have a Mr Whippy ice-cream.
Lochmaddy Bay Prawns also have live Langoustines available to order online too - a selection of sizes (Small, Medium & Large) which can be purchased off the fishing boar or at suitable time by arrangement from Clachan Sands.
For a seafood lover like myself, indulging in their sumptuous seafood platter for lunch was nothing short of a sublime experience and biting into the langoustine, prawns, crab and lobster truly reflects the rugged and beautiful shores of the Outer Hebrides, Scotland.
This is a seafood lovers MUST STOP lunch stop!
THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT LOCHMADDY BAY PRAWNS
They sell seafood and there are no alternatives available
They do cater for allergies where possible. They have seafood available that’s undressed for anyone allergic to mayo or Worcester Sauce. The homemade sauce is dairy free and they also have gluten free wraps available.
They do not have any seating at their home base, Clachan Sands. This is a takeaway - 2GO!
