FOOD - Review of Matto Pizza Diner, Morningside, Edinburgh

This post is mainly for you to stop, stare and drool over these incredible Neapolitan pizzas. But before you engage the drool setting let me tell you where you can find these delicious pizzas.

For those of you that aren’t in the know, you can find Matto Pizza Takeaway on Cadzow Place, Meadowbank, Edinburgh. They’ve been there a while but in September last year they launched their very first 42 seater diner in Morningside, Edinburgh.

The new pizzeria at 370-372 Morningside Road, serves a selection of MATTO’S popular Neapolitan-style pizzas and authentic Italian starters and desserts that have led it to be crowned one of Edinburgh’s top takeaways on Deliveroo and UberEATS.

REVIEW OF MATTO PIZZA DINER, MORNINGSIDE, EDINBURGH

Matto uses a state-of-the-art wood-fired oven that cooks the pizzas in 60 seconds and uses a long, slow rise dough made with premium 00 Italian flour. Their pizzaiolos create all pizzas from scratch using only the best ingredients including, San Marzano tomatoes DOP and Fior di Latte Mozzarella as standard. They are also renowned for their creativity and the new Morningside menu features firm favourites including their Truffle base pizza with smoked cheese, mushrooms and rocket and Pumpkin base pizza with ‘Nduja, gorgonzola, pumpkin seeds and fresh basil; and new additions such as Pea purée base pizza with smoked speck, gorgonzola, mozzarella, figs, rocket and balsamic glaze drizzle.

Don’t they all sounds deeeeelicious??

TartanSpoonie, Carmin, went along to try out the menu and was blown away and couldn’t fault anything at the pizza diner.

Starters were these Arancini Bolognese with bolognese sauce, beef, carrots, onions, peas and the fior di latte mozzarella (£5.50)

Three large piping hot rice balls filled with gooey bolognese sauce and cheese.

The Garlic Foccacia with mozzarella (£5.80) had us drooling more with every bite. Stringy melted mozzarella oozed out of every slice with ample garlic to keep the vampires at bay! The crust was blistering and the garlic had all pooled into the centre making that first bite of every slice, heaven!

Their pizzas are exceptional. Thin bases with thick crust that have bubbled and caught the flames in the pizza oven. Gnarly, chewy, pillowey and moreish all rolled into one.

This was No1 on the pizza list. No cheese (but we added mozzarella), with tomato base, basil, roasted garlic (yes we needed more), oregano and olive oil with added mortadella slices (£6.50 plus toppings). Toppings are generous and we just can’t get over the taste! Sublime.

Then came the No10 pizza, with tomato base, mozzarella, pepperoni, chilli honey and basil (£8.50) Hold us back from ordering another one! Seriously this is so gooood its warrants four ‘o’s!

This had the perfect amount of pepperoni lying patiently to be devoured between pools of molten mozzarella and that divine chilli honey.

Matto pizza have definitely made the right move in opening this diner as there is never enough pizza in the world!

Highly recommend the sit in as the pizzas as super fresh and just made.

I was invited by Matto Pizza to review their menu. Food and drink were complimentary but the views are very much my own
