NEWS : Scottish gin inspired by Loch Lomond National Park launches

Ben Lomond Gin, incorporating natural botanicals sourced from the area surrounding the iconic Scottish peak, has made its debut.

Encased in a statement purple bottle that captures the vibrant hues of upland heather in full bloom, Ben Lomond Gin draws its inspiration from the unique flora, fauna and scenery of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

A London Dry style gin, it features hand-picked blackcurrants and locally foraged rowan berries to create a soft sweetness.

The rowan tree, native to the UK and most commonly found in the Highlands of Scotland, is prominent in folklore and was thought to provide protection from enchantment. Ancient Scots deemed rowan trees so sacred it was forbidden to cut off any part of the tree, except for religious ceremonies.

It is also known as the ‘traveller’s tree’ as it was said to prevent wayfarers from getting lost.

Colin Matthews, CEO of Loch Lomond Group, which produces Ben Lomond Gin, said: “We are extremely proud of our new Ben Lomond Gin. We spent a long time perfecting our recipe and crafting something unique for gin lovers to discover and enjoy. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs is renowned as one of most beautiful landscapes in the UK and our gin is inspired by this stunning area.

To help protect the scenic countryside that inspired Ben Lomond Gin the brand has entered a partnership with leading conservation charity, the John Muir Trust.

The organisation, which is dedicated to protecting and managing wild land was named after John Muir, the Scottish-American naturalist credited with founding the national park movement in the US. His legacy in turn paved the way for Scotland’s first national park, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, where our foraged rowanberries in Ben Lomond Premium Scottish Gin grow wild.
