Sears Pizza Edinburgh Review: Affordable Slices, Retro Vibes & Big Flavour
Tucked into a cheeky wee nook in Marchmont, Sears Pizza isn’t trying to be Edinburgh’s fanciest slice joint and that’s exactly why it works. With its nostalgic decor, student-friendly prices, and a menu that balances bold flavours with no-fuss charm, Sears has carved out a spot that’s equal parts retro throwback and modern crowd-pleaser. Whether you’re grabbing a slice post-Meadows stroll or diving into an 18" pizza pie with pals, this place delivers on taste, speed, and good vibes.
A Wee Nook with Big Personality
Not quite a hole-in-the-wall, and not quite your classic sit-in café either, Sears Pizza have carved out a cosy wee nook in Marchmont, Edinburgh. It’s a clever bit of location scouting: tucked just across from the Meadows, where there’s always a buzz of sports, dog walkers, and impromptu picnics and events, and perfectly positioned between the university and a sea of student accommodation.
In today’s economic climate, it’s clear they’ve clocked who they’re feeding, and they’ve absolutely nailed it. A hefty slice of pizza for just £2? That’s practically pocket change these days. If you’re feeling flush, there’s a £4 slice with a bit more oomph, or you can go all in with an 18" pizza pie starting at £18. And let’s be clear, an 18" pizza is no dainty dinner plate. It’s a beast. A glorious, pizza beast.
Sears Pizza Edinburgh : A Slice of Nostalgia and Big Flavour
There’s one snug wee window seat that’ll comfortably fit four, or six if you’re all pals and don’t mind a squeeze. Along the ledge, there’s bar stool seating for about eight, leaving just enough elbow room for a queue to snake in. This isn’t posh dining, no plates, no cutlery, no fuss. It’s paper napkins, paper plates, and brown pizza boxes stacked like trophies.
The decor’s a nostalgic wink to the late '80s and early '90s - think Ninja Turtles mischief, Madonna in her rebellious prime, and a dash of Anthony Bourdain grit. It’s got that scrappy, pop-culture charm that feels like a love letter to VHS tapes, street food, and unapologetic flavour.
The setup’s simple and brilliant: walk up to the counter, peer through the glass, and pick your slice. There’s usually several types on show at any given time, but they’re swapped out constantly for fresh-from-the-oven beauties. No set order, no fancy rotation, just whatever sells out gets replaced. While we were in, we got our mitts on the Cheese Slice, Pepperoni, Mushroom, the signature Sears Slice, and a fiery Buffalo Chicken.
If you’re feeling bold (or just really hungry), you can order the full 18" pizza pie but be prepared to wait while it’s made fresh. Worth it, mind you.
Now, onto the pizza. They are thin crust, no soggy middle, and each slice held its own without flopping about like a wet napkin. The toppings hit that sweet spot between classic comfort and spicy swagger. The pepperoni was a standout: wee discs of salty, oily goodness scattered generously across the slice. And the Buffalo chicken? A tidy wee kick that didn’t mess about.
Now, I do have one tiny gripe and it’s purely personal. I’m a cheese fiend. Proper, unapologetic, oozy cheese. And while Sears does include cheese on their slices, it’s not the star of the show. So if you’re after a full-blown cheese fest, this might not be your holy grail. Still tasty, mind you, I’d just prefer my cheese with a side of pizza, not the other way round.
Besides the slices and those glorious pizza pies, Sears have snuck in a few tasty wee sides that deserve their own spotlight. We went for the Buffalo ranch tenders, proper fiery, the kind that’ll make you let out a wee “ooft” before reaching for your drink. And the truffle parmesan fries? Carb-on-carb chaos, and absolutely worth it. Rich, salty, crispy, and just indulgent enough to make you feel like you’ve earned a nap and a medal.
Sears Pizza has most definitely earned itself a soft spot in my heart for serving up quick, delicious slices that won’t mug your wallet.
Will I be back? Hell yes.
Will I shout about it to anyone within earshot? Also a hell yes. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t need bells and whistles, it just gets the job done, and does it well.
