REVIEW : STAY - Murrayshall County House Hotel and Golf Club

Castle like only in its structure which includes a turret, this country house hotel isn’t cavernous; it’s warm and cosy with a very homely feel. Every where you turn are gorgeous luxurious touches from lush brushed velvet and tartan soft furnishings to intricate fire places and thoughtful accessories in the library, bar and lounge areas.

Set in 365 acres of stunning Perthshire countryside, Murrayshall offers a luxurious four-star country house experience in the heart of Scotland. Lovingly restored over the past few years, the former home of Lord Lynedoch dates back over 400 years and is situated just 3 miles from the cultural city of Perth, offering guests a tranquil haven in which to unwind and relax, with 40 elegant and spacious rooms and suites and 27-holes of stunning parkland golf.

Warmly greeted by the receptionist and the massive Christmas tree, check in is seamless. Ascending the wooden staircase that wraps around the tree to the first floor, you’ll find a few routes to various rooms within the hotel.

REVIEW : STAY AT MURRAYSHALL COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL AND GOLF CLUB PERTH

We were staying in a Deluxe Double Room facing the front of the hotel and looking out over the gardens and golf course.

The suite is spacious with a large bay window flooding the room with light but adorned with heavy velvet curtains that instantly transforms the room into a luxurious staycation haven or plunges it into heavy darkness when sleep comes.

The bed is massive with a blush pink headboard. White crisp sheets, thick duvet and soft pillows are comfortable and sleep comes quickly once you relax into it.

The bathroom too is spacious and the bath is most definitely inviting. I loved the large mirrored wall in there with ample light.

The large hotel room also has a lounge area with flat screen TV and Sky Sports on offer.

There are some fantastic touches to these rooms, all having been recently refurbished. They offer large luxurious rooms, high ceilings with some rooms located in the main house and other larger family rooms located in a quiet area just of the 9th green. They do offer rooms that are dog-friendly as well as an assessible suite which is located on the ground floor with a walk in shower.

Murrayshall seems to have thought about their guests and caters to their needs in the best way possible.

A quick wander around the grounds and onto the golf course before dinner. I know nothing about gold but I am informed that this place is a golfers paradise, with 27-holes of stunning parkland golf, fully-stocked Pro Shop, vast driving range, expert PGA tuition and a brand-new Spike Bar and changing rooms. It sure sounds amazing and I was impressed by the pristine quality of the grounds.

You’ll also find a beautiful library and lounge where had we had the time, a wee afternoon coffee reading a good book would have been ideal.

Dinner was held in the lounge/bar area with a roaring fire and a piano that I can only imagine would make for a magical atmosphere come Christmas.

Good ol classics fill up this menu like steak and chips and burger and chips, which we ordered.

For starters we chose the Tomato and Watermelon Salad and Bruschetta and for dessert it was a Trio of Icecream and Chocolate fondant with orange marmalade ice cream.

The morning seen us take breakfast in the brasserie again. Full Scottish and eggs on toast was what set us up for the day along with a large pot of tea.

You’d never know that you are 5 minutes or so from Perth and surrounded by some amazing visitor attractions like Scone Palace, The Black Watch and the River Tay. Murrayshall are experienced pursuit planners and offer many activities such as Salmon Fishing, Kayak Tours and Luxury Picnics.

My stay at Murrayshall Country House Hotel and Golf Club was delightful. Under an hour from Edinburgh, this place is a wonderful escape from the city. You’re catapulted into the country where peace, quiet and birds are the only sounds you’ll hear and lifes pace slows to a crawl.

Murrayshall currently offer the SUNDAY INDULGENCE - which includes a two-course traditional roast lunch, overnight stay and breakfast, for just £100 for two. (date of print 10 December 2020)

I was invited by Murrayshall Country House Hotel and Golf Club to review their accommodation. Food, drink and accommodation were complimentary but the views are very much my own
