REVIEW : Sugarfall Dessert Shop, Glasgow

Sugarfall Dessert Shop is new to Byres Road, Glasgow. It joins a long road of many eateries and bars but I think this wee space has the opportunity to stand out and stand strong amongst the vast competition.

Review of Sugarfall Dessert Shop Glasgow

On their website they describe themselves as a Patisserie and Chocolaterie. It’s set up and run by a young couple; Aiste Berlinskaite is a pastry chef with several years experience under her belt and Karolis Juskenas who seems to run the front of house but also has a knack with chocolate and makes most of the chocolate products that they produce.

The interior of the dessert shop/cafe is bright and airy and has a Scandic feel, minimalist and contempory but friendly and warm too. They offer sit in (15 people) or take-away options of their cakes, desserts, chocolates and other homemade products.

Their cakes are all handmade and you’ll find pastries from Eastern Europe through to French pastry; from cakes with mirror glazes, to small individual desserts, chocolates, cookies, jams and candies. It is most definitely a sugar treasure trove!

They also serve up hot drinks including teas, coffees, hot chocolates and their speciality, the pink latte. Check out their Instagram pages for these images www.instagram.com/sugarfallshop

I tried the Caramel Log and the Black Forest Chocolate Gateau.

The Caramel Log is seriously good. The outer chocolate shell is thin, and snaps delightfully beneath your spoon only to reveal a cake and caramel layer cake. The caramel is soft, gooey and runny; and the sponge is moist and perfectly baked. It’s a delightful sweet treat.

The Black Forest is divine. As you know, I am a cherry lover, and this was just heavenly. Chocolate sponge cake that had a perfect balance between sweet and bitter, plenty of lush cream, chocolate flakes and a whole cherry plonked on top. Absolutely nothing not to like.

Sugarfall are a small independent bakery and if you are ever in Byres Road, please do stop in and support them. They are a little shy and still trying to find their feet but you can see the passion and love that goes into making the cakes and chocolates, that you cant but help wanting to help this young couple on their dessert journey.
