Loudons Edinburgh - Brunch Heaven near the Christmas Markets
Loudons in Edinburgh is a brunch-lover’s haven: bright, airy, and inclusive, with a menu that flexes to suit every appetite. They have two sites in Edinburgh (Fountainbridge and Sibbald Walk), but the New Waverley (Sibbald Walk) location stands out for its modern, purpose-built space tucked just behind the Royal Mile. The interior is light-filled, spacious, and welcoming, designed to encourage conversation rather than drown it out with noise. It’s dog-friendly, wheelchair accessible, and family-friendly; making it a rare spot that feels genuinely open to all.
What sets Loudons apart is its philosophy of adaptability and accessibility. The team has created not just a menu but an environment where dietary needs, social catchups, and even business meetings can coexist comfortably. The vibe is community-driven, with low music and a focus on conversation. Reviews consistently highlight friendly, quick service and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a spot where you can linger over brunch or grab a quick coffee without feeling rushed.
Menu Highlights: From Breakfast Classics to Creative Twists
The menu is all-day dining with a strong brunch focus, and it’s impressively adaptable. Loudons is known for catering to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets, with dishes that can be tweaked to suit preferences.
Highlights include:
• Eggs Benedict (“Bennys”) with creative twists beyond the classic.
• Pancakes and toast options that balance indulgence with healthier choices.
• Power bowls packed with vegetables, grains, and proteins for a clean, energising lunch.
• Breakfast plates available in meaty, veggie, or vegan versions.
On the drinks side, Loudons offers speciality coffees, teas, smoothies, and cocktails, from a turmeric latte to a Bloody Mary.
The latte art was a delight, my Flat White arrived crowned with a cheeky wee Highland coo, while the Latte showcased a graceful swan. Both coffees landed at the table swiftly, piping hot and full of flavour. We both grabbed a freshly squeezed apple juice that was utterly delicious too!
The menu at Loudons is the kind you want to linger over with a steaming coffee in hand, because choosing just one dish feels like a delicious dilemma.
The All-Day Breakfasts set the tone, yes, there’s the full Scottish for those who want the works, but also playful twists like Peanut Butter and Jam Porridge (straight into my belly, thank you very much) and hot filled rolls that hit the spot.
Then the French toast and pancakes parade in, and this is where my mouth genuinely starts watering. Imagine a Croque Madame French toast: brioche stuffed with honey roast ham, crowned with a golden egg. Or Pancakes Suzette, dripping in orange butter caramel that clings to the fork and perfumes the air with citrus.
Even the toast section refuses to be ordinary. Take Lahsa, tomato and cumin scrambled eggs with feta, garlic, and chilli oil, or the Avocado Smash, layered with smoked ricotta, poached eggs, margarita dressing, and smoked almonds. It’s toast, but dressed to impress.
And then, the Bennys. Loudons takes the humble Eggs Benedict and spins it into showstoppers: the Butternut Squash Falafel Benny, or the unapologetically Scottish Hoots Mon - haggis, bacon, black pudding, poached eggs, whisky hollandaise, and toasted oats. It’s a dish that practically shouts “Edinburgh!” from the plate.
Honestly, the menu reads like a love letter to brunch, each dish more tempting than the last, each bite promising comfort with a twist.
Showstoppers
From the very first read of the menu, two dishes stood out for us, and they did not disappoint.
Tiramisu French Toast
The Tiramisu French Toast was pure indulgence. Coffee custard–soaked brioche, thick as a doorstop, carefully sliced open and stuffed with sweet ricotta. It arrived looking like heaven on a plate, layered with espresso syrup, chocolate soil, and a generous swirl of whipped cream. The coffee flavour was present but delicate, weaving through the sweetness like a whisper. Each bite was rich yet airy, a brunch that managed to feel light while still utterly satisfying.
Pumpkin Spiced Pancakes
Then came the Pumpkin Spiced Pancakes, another visual showstopper. Two dense yet fluffy pancakes stacked high, dressed with a cranberry and rosemary compote, spiced butterscotch sauce, caramelised oats and pumpkin seeds, and finished with a drizzle of whisky maple syrup and a dollop of whipped cream. It was a dish that felt wholesome and hearty, yet indulgent enough that you couldn’t resist mopping up every last drop of cream and whisky sauce. Somehow, it struck that rare balance, comforting, seasonal, and just a little bit virtuous.
Together, these plates showed off Loudons at its best: visually stunning, flavour-packed, and creative twists on brunch classics that make the menu impossible to skim past.
Loudons proves that brunch can be both indulgent and inventive, with dishes that look as good as they taste - it’s the kind of place that makes choosing a joyfully difficult task. And if you’re hunting for delicious food this Christmas season, venture just five minutes’ walk from the Edinburgh Christmas Markets, down Market Street, to Loudons. You can thank me later!
